Leading Grain Advocacy and Education Group Launches Grains for Your Brain: New Campaign Offers Straight Facts About Food and Health
LAS VEGAS (October 6, 2013)— As the grain-based food industry descends on Las Vegas for the 2013 International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE), the largest and most comprehensive grain industry trade event of the year, the Grain Foods Foundation is proud to deliver straight facts about food and health to this year’s attendees. Through an education session with leading experts and the launch of Grains for Your Brain, a host of new resources to help influencers, policymakers and consumers understand the benefits of grain-based foods, the Grain Foods Foundation addresses all aspects of grain education.
The centerpiece of the Grain Foods Foundation’s participation at IBIE will be an educational seminar: Grains, Gluten and Nutrition Guidelines, A Look at the Facts, to be held on Tuesday, October 8, from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Featuring three recognized experts in nutrition and grain foods, including Dr. Glenn Gaesser, Professor and Director of the Healthy Lifestyles Research Center and the Exercise and Wellness Program at Arizona State University, Shelley Case, Registered Dietitian and Sylvia Melendez-Klinger, Registered Dietitian and Founder of Hispanic Food Communications, the interactive panel discussion will explore the latest in grains nutrition, the gluten-free movement, fad diets, the success of folic acid fortification and a look forward to the next Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
“As an industry, we need to better understand the shifting perceptions of influencers, policymakers and consumers to better meet their needs,” said Christine Cochran, Executive Director of the Grain Foods Foundation. “We are thrilled to bring some of our scientific advisors to share their knowledge and insights into these important issues with the industry at large. At the same time, we are unveiling a new chapter in the Foundation with the launch of Grains for Your Brain. Our hope is to become an intrinsic part of the ongoing discussion about grains and healthy eating: dispelling myths and celebrating this vital source of great tasting nutrients.”
The Grains for Your Brain campaign and website is a dynamic new way to provide influencers, consumers, and others with real science, from real experts to help them make healthy food choices. Incorporating insights from leading experts in the fields of cardiology, neurology, exercise physiology, nutrition and women’s health, the new resource offers everything from analyses of the latest science and reporting on food and nutrition, to easily accessible articles on health and nutrition to delicious everyday recipes featuring good-for-you grains.
