October 27, 2016 — Washington, D.C. — The Grain Foods Foundation is excited to announce the appointment of Dyan Hes, MD, to its Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Hes is the owner and medical director of Gramercy Pediatrics in New York City. Board Certified in both pediatrics and obesity medicine, Dr. Hes serves as a general pediatrician and specializes in childhood obesity, offering medical advice and counseling to change eating behaviors to combat obesity. Additionally, Dr. Hes serves as a director of the American Board of Obesity Medicine, is an assistant attending pediatrician at New York Presbyterian Hospital and is a clinical assistant professor of pediatrics at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Hes was included in New York Magazine’s 2013 Top Doctors and has been named one of New York’s Top Doctors by Castle Connolly each year since 2011.

“Given the important role of grains, especially in the diets of children, we are excited to add Dr. Hes to our Scientific Advisory Board,” said Christine Cochran, executive director of the Grain Foods Foundation. “Dr. Hes’ specialty in pediatrics provides a new area of expertise on our SAB; her specialization in childhood obesity provides valuable perspective and understanding of a health epidemic that is plaguing American families. Dr. Hes has the capability to communicate the essential need for grains as part of a balanced diet in ensuring childhood development and establishing healthy eating patterns for life.”

“I am honored to be asked to serve as part of the esteemed Scientific Advisory Board of the Grain Foods Foundation,” noted Dr. Hes. “I am looking forward to contributing to the team.”

As a pediatrician, Dr. Hes will be able to provide expert insights to the Grain Foods Foundation as it prepares for the release of the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which will address pregnancy and the birth to 24 months populations for the first time. Furthermore, Dr. Hes will play an integral role in promoting scientific research GFF is conducting around the impact of grains in the diets of children in the U.S.
